Socializing with a large group of moms is deffintly an experience. I went to my first MOPS meeting today. There was about 40 women all chasing around their kids while giving all the other moms the once over to check out if they are friend material. I know we all do it, look at their clothes and the way they dress their kids. We were supposed to meet others from our table group, but little attention was paid to the numbers on our name tags.
I have had the same mom friends for years now. I love them dearly and they are really the best friends I could ask for. I joined MOPS to help Em with her socializing, I could still be there while she slowly works at making other friends her age.
Being there though, made me think about how judgmental moms tend to be. We moms judge other moms on wether or not we breastfeed, if we work, how we look, how we dress or kids, what preschool they go to, how we look post baby, how we discipline our kids, what mom car do we drive... the list goes on. Why must we judge each other so harshly? We should embrace what each mom brings to the table. We can learn something from each different type of mom. We should lean on each other for support and companionship.
So next time you are in a group of moms, embrase the differences, say hi and make a new friend.
