A Break From Kids

We have been out of town for our 5 year anniversary trip.  It was only two days, but we also spent out very first night away from the kids last night.  It was sad to be away but as the trip is came to an end I have realized how important trips like these are.  Andy and I don't get regular opportunities to go out on dates and we never have gone on vacation without them.  I feel now that we may have neglected our marriage a bit.  It has not made us grow apart but I have not been able to give him my undivided attention for 3 years, and it was a needed break.

So now I understand the importance of occasionally taking a mommy and daddy break.  Time alone is great for your marriage.  It is a time to just focus on each other and restrengthen the bond that made you fall in love in the first place.  It re-energizes your love and passion for each other.  It will make better parents for your kids, because you are relaxed and happier.

We went to a resort on the central California coast, spent a great 2 days relaxing in mineral spas, getting massages, eating a nice dinner, walking on the beach and just being close as a couple.  We had a great time.  We forgot how much we love being alone.  I think we will always have an anniversary trip now.

It is nice to be home with our kids now, we missed them so much.  But while we were gone we also thought that time away might also be great for them.  They had a great two days with our friends Candice and Javier and their kids too.  They love being at their house and didn't really even want to come home.  I love that they are so happy somewhere else, happy to be with our friends.
