Independence Apple Pie

I made a pie for Andy's fire station today since he has to work on his favorite holiday.  I thought he deserves some patriotic snacks to celebrate.

Independence Apple Pie

Crust:
2 cups flour
2/3 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp water

Filling:
7 Granny Smith Apples- pealed and sliced
1 cup sugar
3 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp flour

For the crust, mix the flour and salt together.  Then cut in the shortening with pastry knife.  Once the shortening is mixed well add water and form dough.  Roll out half for the bottom of the pie.  Grease a pie pan and add the rolled dough.

For the filling mix all ingredients except butter.  Add filling into the pie pan.  Roll out the second half of dough and slice into long strips for stripes and use a star cookie cutter to make stars.  Add this to the top of the pie.  Pinch together the edges of the dough along pie plate.
