A Never Land Party

This year we decided to have a big party for both kids.  A great idea in theory, but can be difficult in theme to keep both kids happy.  We decided on a Never Land theme which can deffinitly satisfy all. 

The party went perfect with pirate lessons, a sword fight with Captain Hook, and a treasure hunt through the neighborhood.  The kids all had a blast!

The house was decorated into parts of Never Land.  Pixie Hollow in the playroom was decorated with large blades of grass and big flowers. That way our flittering fairies would feel so tiny.  We had Pirate Island for all our pirate friends, including a ship banister!  Peter, John, Micheal and Wendy were flying overhead working their way to the clock. 

We had an amazing cake made by Whisk Me Away.  She made us an amazing creation-a perfect treasure chest cake.  It looked amazing an tasted great too!

The kids all dressed up in their favorite Never Land character.  We had Tinkerbelle, Rosetta, Tiger Lilly, Peter Pan, Hook and lots of pirate boys.  They all looked so cute!

Little Monkey met the wall...

There is a few things a mom never really want to see.  Bleeding heads is definitely on my list.  Last night, that is exactly what I saw.  My little monkey man was climbing all over the furniture, as usual, and fell off the coffee table hitting the wall and some plugs that were plugged into the socket.  He screamed and cried but I didn't know how bad it was as I rushed to pick him up and hold him.  But as I hugged and comforted him, I saw a drop of blood land on my hand.  Panic set in as I assessed him for the source. 

It was the back of his little head that was bleeding, a little half inch gash.  I rushed him off to the urgent care where he quickly received his first set of staples.  Throughout this ordeal, Will was such a trooper.  He had stopped crying soon after I cleaned off his head.  He was happy throughout the time in the Urgent care, except for a few short minutes when they actually stapled.  As we waited, he even kept trying to climb on everything in the waiting room, including the coffee tables.  He walked out of there with a smile on his face and a lolly pop in hand.  Thankfully there are no other negative signs of trauma, and after a full nights sleep he is doing great.  

I have a feeling this is not our last trip, he is going to be trouble, just like his daddy...

Walking Will

Will has finally made the switch.  He was a crawler who could walk, he just preferred to crawl.  Now he is a walker, that still crawls, but at least now he prefers to walk.  Yikes.  Look out everyone, Will is on the move!  I know running is coming soon!

Walking Will

Will has been good at standing for a while now. He cruises everywhere and crawls like it's no ones business. Now he has mastered climbing EVERYTHING, with his new favorite- the kitchen table. Yippee, another thing to constantly worry about. I really think he will inherit his daddy's ability to break bones by being a bit overly rambunctious, but I hope that's not the case.

Every time I tried to help him learn to walk by standing him a few feet in front of me, he just falls down and laughs hysterically. Really, it's been a fun game for us. We would do that for a long time (you know, 20 minutes is forever in baby time).

So up until today walking is no major priority because he can get where ever he wants. Today though was a different story. The little mister is about to start walking. Tonight for the first time he started walking. Not just 1 step, but 2, 3, sometimes 4. If he didn't think falling was so funny he may have gone even more. And thanks to a little help from my bestie Candace, he really started getting the hang of it!

My little rambunctious guy is getting so big. I am such a proud mama today.

1 Year today!

My Sweet Boy,
Today is your first birthday.  This day has come too fast, I cannot believe how big you have become.  One year ago I saw you for the first time.  You were so cute and little, perfect in every way.  You have been the sweetest baby and we have enjoyed every minute of you and I am so glad I get to watch you grow everyday.  You are growing into a rambunctious little toddler.  You love to climb; nothing is to high for you. Ladders, furniture, toys, anything- you will find a way to climb it.  You love to eat.  Your favorite foods are broccoli, bananas, and hot dogs but you will east just about anything.  You love to play with your sister and friends.  You crawl after them as fast as you can to keep up.  Soon you will be walking, you have taken a couple steps but know crawling is faster.  You love to be outside, whenever the back door is open you head straight out there.  You don't talk a lot but can say many words- Mama, Dada, diaper, again, and nigh-night to name a few.  Bath time is your favorite time of day, you splash like crazy, getting water all over the place.

Rocking the denim... diaper?!

When I first saw these diapers, I thought it was a bit silly.  But as the weather has quickly hit the high 90's here, I thought they were genius.  The look of shorts without the extra clothing.  I think Will can definitely rock the denim. Huggies new Limited Edition denim diapers are now available.  They are just like the little mover diapers, but blue jean-ed out, all they way down to the straps.  They are great for summer when just a diaper is all you need. 

Will you grab some denim for your little diapered one?  Or do you think they are ridiculous?

Growing Independence

My kids are so lucky to have an amazing amount of cousins to play with.  We have a big family that in the last few years seems to have grown excessively.  This weekend they got to spend time with quite a few of those cousins. 

We spent the last two days at Andy's grandparents ranch where for the first time Emily was extremely independent.  She and her favorite person for the weekend, Garrett, ran everywhere together without needing Andy or I to go with her.  Although it was nice to not be needed, I found that I might not be ready for that independence regardless if she is.  I was constantly afraid of her wandering too close to the horses (which she is afraid of) or going to close to the river (which is gated).  It is all unwarranted fears and I know it is my own issues of letting her go.  How did you deal with your kids becoming independent?

Your a 10!

For all those days I doubt how great a mom I am, those days that my patience has gone away. I can look back at this picture and know my kids would give me a 10! For all you other mommy's too- don't be so hard on yourself when you have those rough days. Your the best mom's because you love your kids. Im sure they would give you a 10 also!

Let the party planning begin!

I love planning birthday parties.  I'm actually pretty obsessive about it.  Last year for Emily's birthday everything was theme related all the way down to the ice cubes.  That's right, the ICE cubes.  OBSESSIVE!  But it turned out great.  This year I am only planning a small party for her, as this year will be big for Will, his first birthday.  He turned 10 months old two days ago and I just realized, I have to start planning a birthday party!  I am crazy?!  Is it too early?!  I don't think so. 

So here is what I'm thinking.  I heard somewhere that you can learn to make balloon arches off you tube!  So now, of course, I'm obsessing over a balloon arch.  So I need a theme that goes with balloon arches.  Carnival or circus maybe.  Hmm... so much to do!  I can't believe my little guy is getting so big.  I want to freeze this age.  He is so much fun right now and so darn cute!

First Hair Cut

We hit another major milestone in Will's short little life.  His first hair cut.  I was a sad, emotional mommy but at the same time I was so happy to get rid of the scruffiness of Will's long hair. 

He was, as always, such a little angel.  He was so cooperative and sweet while he got his hair cut.  Taking after his daddy, he loved his little fire truck. 

He is so handsome now!

This first year is going by so fast.  He is now a couple days away from being 10 months old.  I wish I could slow this down and savor every moment he is this age.  He is so loving, sweet and happy.

Five on Friday

This has been quite an eventful week here in the Kennison houshold. 

1.  Andy had his first interview for the captains position.  He has been working so hard, studying, and practicing it is nice to finally get it done.  He did great and we are waiting to see his score which should arrive in the mail next week. 

2.  Emily has finally started feeling better from her strep infection.  It has taken her quite some time to feel better.  She ended up getting a reactive arthritis from the infection.  She will have no lasting side effects but it could take up to months to fully correct itself. 

3.  Will has officially given up nursing.  It is so sad.  A step I was not really ready for.  Even though it was his own decision I cannot help but feel tremendous guilt that I could not make it longer.  He is happy though and that's what matters most.  Fortunately we still have lots of milk to feed him so he will still have the great benefits of breast milk for some time.

4.  I finally got a picture of Will with his first two teeth!  He is now getting the top two also but I am so excited to finally get a picture with teeth!  He is growing up too fast.  Love my boy.

5.  Lastly, I am so excited that little Paisley Mallon Boyer has finally arrived today!  We have not yet had the pleasure of seeing her cute little face, but hope to make it over this weekend.  We are so excited to have this little girl around!  She will be so spoiled.

My little gigglers

The first kid was so much work.  I always had to be there to stimulate her, play with her, and love on her.  Let me tell you, if you think one kid is hard and time consuming, have more!  Emily is there to help me play with and love on Will, and in the process it keeps her busy too! 

The most precious sound in my house is my kids giggles and laughs.  Recently they have started to play together.  Emily is so good with her little brother and tries to include him in her play time.  So they play and laugh... and I smile.
